Our Training System

We train KC-10 crew members and operate two Weapon System Trainers (full-motion flight simulators), one Flight Training Device (non-motion flight simulator) and one Boom Operator Flight Trainer at both Travis and McGuire Air Force Bases.

KC-10 Extender

The KC-10A Extender entered service in 1981 as a modified McDonnell-Douglas DC-10. The current fleet of KC-10A's is uniquely suited for both the air refueling and airlift missions. The Extender is capable of both taking on fuel as a receiver aircraft and off-loading fuel as a traditional aerial tanker. The crew consists of two pilots, a flight engineer and a boom operator.

The KC-10 is operated by the 305th Air Mobility Wing, McGuire Air Force Base, New Jersey; and the 60th Air Mobility Wing, Travis Air Force Base, California. Air Force Reserve Associate units are assigned to the 349th Air Mobility Wing at Travis and the 514th Air Mobility Wing at McGuire.
